Proper Linking Strategies for Search Engine Optimizations

Proper Linking Strategies for Search Engine Optimizations are discussed in this video.

1) CLEAN YOUR LINKS
DON’T put TOO many links within your content– and you don’t want people linking to you with too many links.

You should write reviews with no other links than a credit at the end of the review using a specific URL as the anchor text:
http://www.domain.com link (the full domain with “http” address is the anchor text)
If you do use links within your content, or if someone links to you from their content, they should use a variety of keywords or domain.com as the anchor text.

We used to tell sites to all use the same words, “sex toys,” as the anchor text- but Google now finds that to be not “natural”– and thus, “spammy”.

2) 301 DEAD PAGES
Old discontinued pages should be retired with a 301 redirect. Dead pages that linger in google’s index can hurt you too. The 301 status code means that a page has permanently moved to a new location.

3) “NOFOLLOW TAGS” ON SPONSORED LINKS
“Nofollow” provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines “Don’t follow links on this page” or “Don’t follow this specific link.” (Content links shouldn’t have a “no follow” tag.)

Put rel=”nofollow” within the a href tag.

4) PROPER LINKING FROM ORIGINAL CONTENT
You need to get links from real sites with clean code and proper linking strategies as described above. Look in Google’s webmaster tools. If you see a site links to you 100,000 times, that site is hurting you.

5) GOOD INTERNAL LINKING FROM YOUR OWN SITE
How you link internally to your own content matters, too. Don’t link to everything on every page. Link to the most valuable content only.
